Hey everyone! Miss u so much. It's a pleasure to be back in touch with you after a while. We take a fun trip to the enigmatic area of the grammatical world in today's post. We prepared an activity and presented it to the students. The main purpose of preparing this activity is to ensure that students understand what a corpus is and to conduct a corpus study for this purpose. A corpus is a collection of texts. We call it a corpus (plural: corpora) when we use it for language research.

Examining the brief differences between the verbs "said" and "told" in reported speech is our focus. Although both verbs are frequently employed in casual conversation, there are subtle differences in how they are utilized in reported speech. Now let's take a look at the steps of our activity with their explanations.

Firstly, we ask students to examine a few sentences, discuss them with their partners to ensure understanding.

Later examine in depth a corpus study by accessing the provided link. They are tasked with researching the given words and producing two sentences for each word based on their findings.

Following this, we prompt them to explain the differences between 'said' and 'told' to the best of their understanding.

Lastly, we provide two practice exercises, the first being at a medium difficulty level and the second at a hard difficulty level. Students are expected to attempt the majority of these exercises.

That's all our activity. We prepared this activity with my friend. If you want, you can check out her blog here. I'm sure you'll find great posts. During our activity preparation process, we actually completed the corpus study we aimed for in the activity. But entries in this activity class may have a few problems. For example, will the teacher present this or have it printed and distributed? Will the students write it in their notebooks or will the teacher give them a material? For this reason it may be a bit costly. Whatever, it was fun work. I used the Canva site. As a result, we have come to the end of another post. See you next time. Take care of yourselves.
